Reformer of USGA Handicaps Dies 0

(BOSTON) March 23, 2011 — Francis Scheid, a mathematician who took up golf in 1961 while on sabbatical in Rangoon, has died, the Boston Globe reported.

Scheid was a founding member of the USGA committee that reworked the handicap-calculation system in 1991. He was 90.
